A Day at Berkshire Trails

Imagine a summer day filled with choice, adventure, creativity, and connection. At Berkshire Trails, we’ve structured a program that’s intentional, flexible, and rooted in growth. Here’s what your child’s “Day at Berkshire Trails” might look like.

Camp Structure & Divisions

Berkshire Trails organizes campers into divisions based on grade:

  • Lower Camp: entering grades 2–5
  • Middle Camp: entering grades 6–7
  • Upper Camp: entering grades 8–10
  • Leaders In Training (LIT): entering grades 11–12

Younger campers experience a broad, well-rounded schedule, with opportunities to explore their interests by partaking in some electives; as campers get older, they gain more choice and specialization to focus on favorite areas.

Sample Daily Flow

A typical day includes six activity periods, followed by an evening activity after dinner. Morning and afternoon periods give campers time to try various offerings; evenings may include group games, campfires, or special events.

Between structured blocks, there’s time for meals, rest, transition, and informal connection, so campers never feel overscheduled or isolated.

Exploring Activity Areas

Here’s a peek at some of the options campers can experience:

  • Adventure / Challenge & Movement: circus arts, ninja warrior courses, parkour, rock climbing, skate park skills
  • Aquatics: swimming (recreational and competitive), snorkeling, canoeing, kayaking, wakeboarding, tubing, sailing, paddleboarding, and more
  • Arts & Tech: ceramics, jewelry making, photography, videography, podcasting, robotics, cooking, crafts, STEM exploration
  • Athletics / Sports: soccer, basketball, lacrosse, rollerblading, volleyball, gymnastics, hockey, tennis, etc.
  • Performing Arts: drama, musical theater, dance, stagecraft, technical theater

Evening activities might include camp-wide games, talent shows, or themed nights that draw campers together for shared fun.

Choice + Personal Growth

As campers mature, they can lean into interests they discover. Maybe a Middle Camper falls in love with podcasting and signs up for more media electives. An Upper Camper might specialize in sailing or rock climbing. The flexibility to choose helps campers deepen passion while still maintaining variety.

Each activity is led by instructors who combine expertise with mentorship. The goal isn’t just skill-building but confidence, resilience, and connection.

The “Why” Behind the Schedule

Berkshire Trail’s daily structure is designed for balance:

  • Variety to keep energy high
  • Choice to reflect individual interests
  • Guided challenge so campers push boundaries safely
  • Community time so relationships deepen
  • Transitions and rest so campers recharge

In short: we want kids to feel invested, engaged, and supported.

Voices & Vignettes

“I tried kayaking in Week 1 and ended up leading a canoe trip in Week 3.” “My daughter’s favorite was robotics, but she discovered she loved dance, too. She made friends in both.” Counselors often say: “I love watching someone go from unsure to confident in something totally new.”

Closing & Invitation

A day at Berkshire Trails is vibrant, intentional, and empowering. It’s not “just camp” - it’s a summer of discovery, belonging, and growth. We invite you to visit, explore our programs, and imagine your child’s path here.
